Rising Stars in
California Central Coast:
As California wine country
grows Santa Barbara County has found its place in recent years. Initially
drawn to the easy growing high yield Bordeaux varietals, it has, in the last
few years moved in the direction of its cool climate counterpart Burgundy.
Pinot Noir has become Santa Barbara’s Champion with Syrah & Chardonnay
playing a more subdued but equally impressive role. Micro-climates such as
Santa Rita Hills, Santa Lucia Highlands & Bien Nacido, along with producers
like Melville, Brewer-Clifton, Bonaccorsi, Kenneth-Crawford, Loring, Jaffurs
& many others are shaping Pinot & Syrah into some of California’s best wines
that promise to keep growing. Santa Barbara is the most exciting county in
California right now. “Garagistas” like Manfred Krankl (Sine qua non Winery)
are producing some of the most exciting wines in the world with rich vibrant
fruit, peppery spice, floral highlights and racy acidity. These wines are
wonderful on their own or can be paired with a wide variety of foods, such
as wild game, cured & roasted meats, mushrooms & truffles.
